The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Command operatives apprehended 31 suspected internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo Boys on Sunday, September 12, 2021
(Yahoo Boys ) The 31 suspects were reportedly arrested in different locations in Benin City, Edo State after some intelligence reports.
Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson of the antigraft agency, in a released statement, disclosed that some of the arrested suspected fraudsters were those who were spotted in a viral video, standing on their cars and throwing naira notes into the air in a plaza situated in Benin city.
They had started the throwing of money again at the same plaza on Sunday but unfortunately for them, operatives of the Commission intercepted them at the exit gate, while the rest of them were arrested at their rendezvous in the same Benin City.
Those names of those arrested are given as Frank Osas, Aisosa Kelly, Richard Ehigie, Samuel Victor, Abdurahman Abudulahi, Uwaifo Destiny, Osaro Osarere, Favour Oleye, Smart Okunvobo, Oduwa Osahon, Osaretin Blessed, Aker Kelly, Promise Godspower, Lucky Dickson, Osamode Efosa, Destiny Omoru, Jacob Kelvin, Essien Sunday and Joseph Nwosu.
The remaining are Eti-osa Osamwonyi, Patrick Benson Osaguna, Aigbe Destiny, Victor Kenyei, Marvellous Atiti, Gift Ebuehi, Osayi Casmir, Osahenkhoe Godstime, Paul Okoh, Osamuyi Aigbe-Egharevba, Ohumumwen Osaremen and Christopher Momodu,
Several expensive items were recovered from the suspected fraudsters as at when they were arrested, which include 13 luxury cars, which are Lexus 350, Lexus RX 350, Mercedes ML350, Range Rover Evoque, GLK 350 4Matic, Toyota Camry, Lexus ES 350, Lexus ES 350, Lexus RX 350, Lexus RX 350, Lexus IS 350, Toyota Venza and Mercedes C300.
Laptop computers, phones, identity cards and several fraudulent documents were also recovered from them.
The commission disclosed that investigations are still ongoing and the suspects are cooperating and have divulged useful statements and on completion, they will be arraigned in court.
